The Matinee was started in Akron's Highland Square historic area in the fall of 2006. It was opened by Mario Nemr, the long time resident DJ at Akron's infamous alternative nightclub, Thursday's Lounge. The Matinee became an instant hit within the local Akron music scene. Local and national bands are attracted to its warm atmosphere, small stage, and a great sound system. In addition, an excellent beer and wine list made it a welcoming spot for just about any person who enjoys the nightlife.
